Paraguay Asuncion Mission
2002-2004
As I was serving in Paraguay I had the opportunity to work in the city of Fernando de la Mora. It is a good sized city just south of Asuncion. I was there for the last 5 months of my mission. I served with two great companions, Elder Rodriguez from Uruguay, and Elder Yates of Salt Lake. While I work with both of them we were able to work with a young man named Jose. Jose was only 16 when we started to work with him, he was a referral from a member. Jose loved the gospel right away, he was baptized a month after we started to teach him. While teaching him his mom was always there in the lessons just paying attention. After Jose's baptism we were giving the new member lessons with the ward mission leader and Jose's mom asked if she could take the lessons. It was definitely a blessing to Jose, he had been praying that his mom would accept the gospel. So we started to teach his mother, about a month later was his moms baptism. She was baptised by her son, as my companion and I sat in the back of the room it was definitely a great experience for us, seeing a young man we baptized is now in the water baptizing his mother. I have kept in contact with both of them over the years and both of them are still very active in the church, which is the best part of the story. They have stayed strong even after all these years.

I would be serving a mission soon and I'm pretty much excited about it. I also would like to have this kind of story that I'd be able to tell my grandchildren someday.
ReplyDeleteI want to serve a mission because I want to change people's lives. I want them to know about the gospel and the true church. I like to share the happiness I have now so that they too may feel it.
I am going to the MTC in july then heading out to Paraguay! It was cool reading your story and I hope to have stories (if not just one) like yours! If you have any tips or hints of what you wish you would have taken or not taken on the mission or just anything I would love to hear from you! email me at aaron7e7@gmail.com
